Jost Münster is one of the most accomplished painters of a generation of artists who continuously review and expand the definition of what a painting can be and achieve. To claim that his works are abstract is obvious. But that would only be half the truth. In fact, Jost Münster draws his motifs from the intense observation of colours, shapes, and structures in the urban environment of his chosen home, London. In particular, he is interested in the texture and structure of built and assembled elements, such as facades, windows, gates, or silhouettes.

Jost Münster transforms these pictorial phenomena into nuanced colour and material compositions. For me, the creative process is a continuous experimentation in which I constantly question and shift the boundaries of materiality and the media I employ, says the artist. At the end of this process are visual works and entire cycles where being and appearance, abstraction and reality, imagination and materiality interweave, subtly challenging our visual experience.
